This Monday, Feb. 6, Â the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Student Government Association discussed upcoming plans on their SGA Week, the annual campus clean-up and the 2017 elections.
President Wil Perkins said the last tailgate interest meeting will be held 5:30 p.m. March 7 in the SGA office. He said organizations that haven’t been contacted are still encouraged to attend.
Vice President Mary McMahon said UL Lafayette’s annual campus clean-up is scheduled for April 8.
Additionally, she said SGA week will be held March 20-24. Festivities kick off March 20 with cookies for senators and students will be distributed at the weekly SGA meeting for 5 p.m. in the Union’s Helm B. Constantine room.
The SGA will host its second annual Party on the Green in the Union courtyard from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. March 21.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness will give root beer and coke floats to students March 22 as part of Stay Afloat with NAMI on Campus to raise mental health awareness.
Thursday, March 23, Breakfast with SGA will be from 8 a.m.-10 a.m. outside the SGA office in the Union.
Events for March 24 have not yet been announced.
Treasurer Thomas Schumacher explained how SGA will be filming an election video to make students more aware of the Big Three’s impact. Also, to remind them to get out and vote during election days. Filming is set for 5:30 p.m. March 6 and March 8.
Schumacher added $2,000 more to each college’s budget if they have spent some or none of their money from last semester. Awarded to colleges after enrollment numbers were confirmed, the additional funds are marked for planning activities or funding any upgrades within each college.
Perkins said all organizations, big or small, may partner with them during SGA week to be showcased on campus.
He said he plans for legislation to meet next week to discuss a change in next year’s election cycle.
The College of the Arts will host Senior Capstone Project March 16-19. This play is written by and for college students. The senior capstone talks about current seniors’ college experiences throughout their four years at UL Lafayette.
Ragin’ Recognition applications are now available through OrgSync. The application deadline is March 21. The program will be held 6 p.m. April 11 in the Union Ballroom.
There are 96 applicants in this year’s spring election, which makes this one of the most competitive SGA elections in three years.

-      The American Institute of Architecture Students received $800 to offset attending the American Institute of Architecture Students Forum in Boston, Massachusetts Dec. 29-Jan.1.-       UL Lafayette’s Gospel Choir received $800 to attend the National Baptist College Retreat in Houston.-       Yi Weng received $200 for the SPIE Photonics West 2017 Conference, which took place Jan. 27-Feb. 1 in San Francisco, California.-      Alaa Ali was granted $200 to attend the International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing March 5-9 in New Orleans.-       Samantha Hauser received $200 for the U.S. International Association of Landscape Ecology 2017 Conference April 9-14 in Baltimore, Maryland.-       The Society of Petroleum Engineers received $540 to offset costs associated with attending the North American Student Summit Feb. 1-4.-       Mahmoud Darwich received $200 to attend the IEEE Mobile Cloud 2017 Conference April 7-9 in San Francisco.-      Lauren Griffin received $147 to attend the Evidence-Based Advances for Work with Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity Conference in San Jose, California March 9-10.-       Shekufeh Safeie received $175 to attend the American Association of University Women (AAUW) National Convention June 14-17 in Washington D.C.-      Rebecca Copell received $152 to attend the Association of Applied Behavior Analysis International Conference in Denver from May 25-May 29.-       The Industrial Designers Society of America UL Student Chapter received $800 to attend the IDSA South District Design Conference 2017 in Houston April 7-8.-       The English Graduate Student Association received $765 to attend the Deep South in the Global South Interdisciplinary Conference, which is slated for April 6-8 at UL Lafayette.-       Amanda Capelli received $125 to attend the Elizabeth Madox Roberts Society in Springfield, Kentucky.-      Beta Alpha Psi’s received $800 to attend the Beta Alpha Psi Southwest Regional Meeting in Dallas for $800, which was held Feb. 24-25.
